Born in London, England, Joan was the wife of the late Harold Markoff, and is survived by their three sons, Terry Markoff and his wife, Kathy, of Dallas, TX; Randall Markoff and his wife, Betty, of Abingdon, MD; and Michael Markoff of Vass, NC. Joan is also survived by seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Joan was born in London to James and Ada Hardie on August 30, 1923. She lived through a World War II bombing in her neighborhood at age 14. Mrs. Markoff then worked in the British post office before meeting Harold Markoff of New York City, who was serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps while in London. She came to NYC via the Queen Mary in 1945. While living in New York, the couple raised their three sons. Joan moved to Bel Air, MD in 1981, several years after her husband passed away. She has been a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church since 1983, and served in the children's ministries. Between 1998 and 2001, she resided in Vass, NC nearby her son, Michael. Since 2003 she has been a resident at Bel Air Health and Rehabilitation where she has received dedicated and loving care.

She was a loving and devoted daughter, mother, grandmother (also known as Gran Gran), and great-grandmother. Joan was an avid reader and eventually traveled to many parts of the world, which she read about, during the 80's and 90's.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1643 Churchville Road, Bel Air, MD 21015.
