Robert D. Baker, age 85, of Joppa, MD, died on July 27, 2010 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Born in Renick, WV, he was the son of the late Alfred Edward Baker and Hannah L. Asbury Baker Patterson. He was a veteran and had served his country during WWII as a combat engineer. As a master handyman, he loved to build and tinker. He also loved to shoot pool and garden, at which he had grown 7 foot tomato plants and 14 foot string bean plants. He was an unselfish and giving person.
Mr. Baker is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruth A. Baker of Joppa, MD; daughters, Barbara Pawloski and husband, Steven, of Joppa, MD and Joanie Vinkowski and husband, Lenny, of Fallston, MD; brothers, Russell Baker of Middle River, MD and Edward Baker of Cocoa Beach, FL; sisters, Fannie Offerman of Levittown, PA, Mary Crue of Essex, MD, Jean Burgess of Columbus, OH, and Edna Sickler of FL; and granddaughters, Stefanie Pawloski and Jennifer Vinkowski Richey; and grandson, Jonathan Vinkowski.
